You Are Capable of More Than You Know!
I had lunch with a long-time friend today. Jennifer and I have been best friends since the 2nd grade! I was telling her about my training, about my calves feeling like they might explode, and about the days I feel like I can't stop eating (today). I told her I hope I'm doing it right and I'll be ready when October comes. She said "The human body can take a lot. I think you will be just fine."
Apparently I didn't hear word of this from under my rock, but in October 2019 Eliud Kipchoge set a world record by running a sub-2 marathon. That's 26.1 miles in under 2 hours. My goal is to run HALF that in under 2 hours. This guy was running miles in 4 minutes and 30 seconds... the whole time! If you are on a treadmill, that's 13 miles an hour. It's an unbelievable accomplishment. I watched a short documentary on it here.
Whenever you set a goal for yourself, it's easy to think "This is hard" simply because you have never done it before. But "hard" is relative, and I am willing to bet it's not as hard as you might think. You will have to work towards it, no doubt. But once you reach whatever that thing is, then your perception of "hard" will change. My whole point in all of this? Don't get discouraged! Keep pushing toward the mark. You are capable of more than you know.
Today I ran the fastest 5K I’ve run outside of an actual race. Small victories! I finished my night with some yoga. I’m looking forward to a glorious rest day tomorrow.
