Weekend Recap + Random Talks By The Pool

This weekend FLEW by. When I got off work Friday (Friday's are only half days for me), I saw Alex off to his job and then started repainting the house. I got one coat done in the guest bedroom and hallway before I stopped for the night. Saturday, Alex went grocery shopping while I continued with the painting. Around 4 that afternoon we said to heck with painting (because it still wasn't finished) and decided to go enjoy ourselves and relax by the pool.

Sunday was just as busy. We always meal prep for the week on Sundays, but I also cooked an extra meal for my parents, who had just come home from out of town. After about 4 hours in the kitchen, we rushed out the door to see my parents before going by Alex's parents' house to give his mom a birthday gift. We had a little bit of time to ourselves when we got home to eat dinner and start a movie.

It was a successful weekend of training. Saturday morning I did my running drills first thing, then did an upper body/core yoga session. The drills were meant to help you correct any issues you may have in running form. They were harder than I thought they would be, but they were helpful. Sunday, I went for my weekly long run. Alex ran the first mile with me. I ran at around 10 in the morning, because I knew I wouldn't be able to get it in later that day. It was already hot, and I was running in direct sunlight. My goal was to alternate between one mile at a slow pace and one mile at a faster pace, but after 3.5 miles I was pretty slow the rest of the way. That made for a slower average pace than I wanted, but I was still proud of myself for pushing through and finishing all 6 miles.

When we were relaxing by the pool Saturday, Alex and I got to talking about life and such. We daydreamed about a world where we didn't have to work. We could have every day to do what we wanted to do. Truth is, there will always the next project, the never-ending to-do list, the impending Monday. Most of us have to work a day job. You can spend every day at work being miserable, or you can choose to be thankful. Thankful for the things the job allows you to afford. Thankful for the relationships you get to build along the way.

It's easy to fall into a "what's next" mindset. I know I can be guilty of it. I used to wonder if I would ever find the person for me, or move out of my parents house. Now, I am happily married, and we bought a beautiful home together. I can't let myself get worked up about work that needs to be done around the house, or having to go to work so we can afford the house, without balancing that out with thankfulness for the answer to prayer that our house IS. And our marriage. And everything else we have!

There will always be more work to do. Time is arguably the most valuable thing we have in this life, so let's use it wisely. Spend time with the ones you love. Take time for yourself and do things you enjoy. No matter what you are doing, make a point to see all the many reasons you have to be thankful. That's my challenge to you this week!
